Alright, I was damn tired listening to the course subjects due to the fact that I have done my research long ago. The first day of orientation was really, uninteresting. I can't deny that. All the time, we were listening to the lecturers, briefing what is going to happen in class. All the stress about the 85% attendance rule. Sad thing is that, it is included with lectures, so you can't skip them unless you want yourself to be thrown out of the school.
Firstly, I met Melissa and Katherine at the bus stop. While looking for them, I met Daphne and Kasey, who was my ex-school mate. They were also students from TP except they are in Law Management. I also got a chance to meet Angie Low. She was also from IT school. It was so fun to meet again after so many years apart. After we got together, we set off to IT school which is located to the left of the plaza. I was lost at first but managed to get my directions correctly. We took temperature at the Termo-Scan Stations aka TSS. While I was in queue for temperature taking, there was a horde of IT students quing for what I believe, to take their matriculation card. Without that card, you are not a TP student. Basically, whenever you are in the compound, you are suppose to carry that card around with you like a second IC. After took mine, I was led to LT1, where I saw many odd faces. In my heart, I knew that one or more of them will be my classmate. Upon entering my door, I saw this guy with a red shirt on, later that I found out it was Sent, LT head. He showed my class sitting which was right up the carpetted stairs. It was exactly at the last row. I didn't know that CO42 could arrive that early as most of the seats were taken up. As more and more students pouring in from the main door, 5 classes was almost present. Time was actually, 9 15 and by then our lecture theater was already full. The registration was suppose to end at 9.30 but I guess it ends earlier. After waiting for sometime, I decided to keep quiet and pretend not to be bothered. In fact, I was being observant for the pass half an hour. After everybody was present, we were made to change into Blue IT shirts. It was very cool but clashed horribly with my khaki pants.
While waiting for our year 1 co-ordinator, we learnt the "sat-sat oi" cheer. It was cool. We were also learnt the "dum-dum-di-di-di-di-dum-dum" song with our hand gestures, I didn't get it right because it went very fast. Not to forget the "Titanic Song" also with the hand gestures. Lastly, Sent also initiated the Kallang wave, which I anticipated that no one will participate, but I was wrong when a sea of blue-IT sudents stood up and did the kallang wave. Even I did it. Initially, I thought it was lame but as you can see, I began to enjoy them. To my surprise, even the girls did it with us. Only one word I could say: Impressive.
After 15 minute or so, our year 1 co-ordinator came in and brief us about the course subjects, school rules and etc...etc....and not to forget about the SARS issue too. Thinking that we just heard the last lecture, we were stunned by another lecturer. He too briefed us for at least 15 minute. I just could not hold it longer when another one came in. It was like a stream of lecturers coming in and out briefing us what they are in-charge of. With the last one left, I was like hitting towards the canteen with my stomach, growling.
Lunch was horrible. The canteens were jammed packed with all different schools eating at the same place at the same time. So some of them had to buy lunch and the worst thing is that is wasn't covered by the school miscellaneous fees we paid. So, it means that we had to buy our own lunch. The next thing is that, there is no proper place to sit, bear in mind the canteen had already been occupied, and the Orientation Leaders(OLs) had to make them sit on the floor while taking their lunch. For us, our OLs left us alone and bring back packed food. Sadly, we were not allowed to go out because it was raining. Waiting and waiting, I knew we were going to be late. By the time food arrives, most of other classes had already settled inside LT1 while we were still eating as fast as we could. I had no choice but to swallow big chunks of fish cake down my throat. Luckily I wasn't choked. After that, we were ushered in with everyone looking at us. During that lecture, it was the Director, our year 1 to 3 co-ordinator. Lecturing about the importance of having our lanyard (the card case with a string which was meant to be hung from your neck) with Matric card and the official temperature sticker. I guess he was already finished when we stepped in. Again, a stream of lecturers coming in out of the LT1. Only one subject caught my interest and that is NMM(NetworkMultiMedia). Mainly because of my passion of building websites and also there was no exams. There were couple of subjects which has no exams too. That's the good side.
After the last presentation, we were brought out to tour around the school, only to find that we were bullied by other shools. What a life! The tour was only part of it. I guess we will continue it tomorrow. Of course, I would expect much better. I also got to know names of my classmates but I will manage to mingle them at the end of the third month. After we play the "memorising name" game, we were ushered in the LT back. I was relieved when it ends earlier instead of 6.30. After everyone got back, we were dismissed. Home Sweet Home.
Well, I have to catch a sleep now because there will be games tomorrow morning. All right, OK. See you tomorrow
