Today I had rock climbing clinic. Yeah, you heard it right, I'll be one of the TP rock climbers. Well, I didn't expect to see so many participants. There were also malay girls who aren't exposed to adventurous CCA like Rock Climbing. The idea of rock climbing sounds very interesting to me and yet challenging. It was really tough for beginners like me.
The rock wall was three to four storey high and I managed to struggle up there. It was really a challenge for me. The belays(people who are supporting you from below) have to look out for the climbers safety. Their job is to ensure that climbers didn't fall. When I tried, the spaces and the cracks are really small and I had hard to time to hook myself onto it. Most of the time I had to depend on my hands to do the climbing and my legs are really week. I can't even stand. It was actually wasn't my fault, I tried the hardest course of all four courses. The other fact was that I wasn't really properly attired and my shoes created big problem for me. Often, I misplaced my feet and hanged up there. Luckily there was a belayer.
After a while up there, you will feel strained on your hand muscle especially the muscles associated with biceps. The best way to train those muscles is to play monkey bar(I think). For it requires your hand muscles to support your weight. Yeah, I learnt my lesson from there. Surprisingly, the feeling of scare of heights wasn't there at all. You will always have that feeling that you must reach the top. There also sense of achievement when you got up there. The real fact was, I didn't even make it. Well, I always told myself that there will always be another chance.
The sports itself, operates in the evening so to spare ourself from the scorching sun. The rock wall was facing directly Bedok Reservoir so you could really see the whole landscape of it. Unnoticed, I met my ex-primary school mate, Juffri and Hafiz. they were in the sports climbing too. It was really nice to reminisce old times. I also met a couple of my schoolmates too.
Overall, sports climbing really a game for me. It has the challenge, the motivation for us to success. Although it was very difficult at first, sooner or later, we might get used to the bitterness of the sport. I'm looking forward for the next try. Hehehehe......
