Hi everyone, I'm back....I had been in camp for three days already. In what camp? Of course, my rock climbing camp. I didn't know that rock climbing can be such a fun with your friends around you who share the passion to climb...
The first day we had bonding game, or you term it as ice-breaking games. It was the day I had my FNDB lab test.Every thing was perfect then except for the rain. Nothing much to do on that day except for climbing and we do learn lots about techniques.
Some of the seniors also shared tips about climbing and it has given me ideas of what we going to expect during competitions.
The next day, we went for outing to Dairy Farm Quarry, it was actually located at Bukit Timah Nature Reserve Park....At first it was so scarry to even try on it but I don't know it seems that I can climb naturally. You see, in the morning it rains, therefore, it is difficult to set up a top-rope for top-rope climbers like us. There are a few of our seniors tried repelling too. But they had to go for NE forum which like a must and joined us later. There a few other routes which are more challenging too. Like the Homage route which I find quite tough when seeing my seniors trying to lead. They certainly had the power to even hooked up four runners up that particular wall...Mind you the wall was slippery due to morning rain...
When I climbed the wall, I didn't know that I got stuck down there unable to secure myself. We had to make good decisive decision to see good hand holes and foot hole...But I just did make use of the cracks form in between the granite rocks. It was not that easy at first but as you climb, your body automatically adjust to the surroundings and you could just naturally climb. Thanks to Nyssa who help us to tie an anchor so that we could climb. When I reached the top, the feeling is so great and that is the first time I climbed onto a natural rock wall which is damn slippery. I had never believed that I could achieve that.It is an amazing feat for me.It was very risky because you never know when the rock would just give way. I saw a particular chunk just fell off when my climbermate climb off the ground. It was pretty scarry, though.
Upon returning, I couldn't stop being proud of myself...till now. In the bus, everybody was exhausted so we kinda fall asleep and had to take two buses and change at Tekka Centre...Back at the dance studio where we sleep, we discuss our climbs this and that, we also play card games.Just before we sleep, we gathered around for our opinions...It was a great one...
Last day we had a competition and I screwed up....can you imagine I couldn't even start??? I was like, OMG, what was I doing, my foot got all wrong and certainly I didn't practise enough....I totally make a fool of myself. ...arghhh.....ok that's it...maybe I didn't practice much for bouldering...just maybe...Looking at experience climbers that had so much passion and instinct which I don't have. Although many people say that I can climb very well, I still doubt that...
Honestly, I took up rock climbing for leisure, soon I yearn more challenge and I promised myself to look for more competition....On the plus side, I got certified as Level 1 climber...which means that I could belay climbers outside my school...So need belayers anyone?
