Ok...here I am again and it shall be another two weeks more and we are into the new year....
Last Saturday, I didn't really go anywhere except went to pelita for lunch and stucked at home due to the rain...well, I admit that I should count myself lucky as I didn't get any flu from that...It has been pretty bad and the rain was on-off type. It was really hard to predict when it would stop raining and when it would not...in the end, I rot at home on that Saturday, determing to fulfill my desire on the next day...
The very next day, we managed to step out and did some groceries shopping and it came to whopping Rs 160 ~ for each person. Well, it is quite natural as our supplies are already running out and I had to scrimp and save for the best on my last days here...
After have the goods sorted out, Aaron, yong hon (yh) and I went out to Spencer but this time we took an auto for Rs 40 because of the rain..We quickly head for Subway, and yes, it is really a Subway for those you yet to know, for our quick lunch...When I was in the midst of ordering, yh called out to me and I saw a familiar couple, it was Shannon and Bridget, his wife...a very surprising coincidence...they were here shopping too...
Shannon did tell us to make our trip here more fruitful by visiting Mahabalipuram and I have yet to finalise the transportation and the places I want to visit. After sharing some points and views and of course, eaten our so called lunch, we went by Levi's to get a pair of jeans...I just didn't get it just yet and the accessories are so limited... Aaron and yh get a pair of jeans each and I just sort of try out one of them..it was really nice though and I'm determine to get one here but not at the moment...
Just at that point in time, we spot the couple again, we chatted and browsing through the clothes and it was so happened that they invited us to their house for dinner...I was sure I was dreaming or something when they ushered us to their prominent SUV parked in the basement. It was huge and elaborately equipped with digitals that you can find in SG...I wasn't that surprised though but equally amazed. With the familiar insignia of Uniquely Singapore, it was no doubt that the company, STB, has provided Bridget the SUV and a very experienced driver. In case you are wondering, Bridget is one of the STB's employees out-stationed here...
The trip to Besant Nagar was never been so comfortable before even we had to squeeze because the back seat has been removed to cater to some stuff...Nevertheless, the discomfort quickly vanished and the ride has never been so smooth ever since 31st October...
Although in the night with slight drizzle, I could faintly see the shoreline of the Marina Beach, world's 2nd longest beach....I never really had the chance to see it in the day but at least I could see the dark abyss into the night...As we ride along parallel to the beach, there is this waterfall, man made of course, that claimed it has not been function due to the shortage of rain...Now, the waterfall was like given a new lease of life, and it was quite a sparkle in the light...
Moving on, we crossed the ever famous bridge, the Adyar Bridge...tourist just came to watch the rising water rised so high to touch the bridge under the full moon...The bridge seemed as though it was guarded by two mythical lions, one of the greatest symbols in India. The serenity of looking out onto Bay of Bengal never have been so enticing before...
On the way, we stopped at Fashion Folks which offers trendy clothes that you could hardly find in major department stores. In such a small area, the two-storey boutique holds a myriad choice of clothes for men, women and even for children...if that's not enough, accesories like belt, bags, and even shoes were on display...On top of it all, they had this small area complete with microphone stand and a sub-woofer, where Shannon and his friends there used to sing...
I managed to get myself a T-Shirt that's really worth the price...I feasted my eyes with so much clothing that I want to buy even more...sadly, I didn't bring much. Aaron and yh also got their garments too and agreed the place is really worth coming back...
Continuing our journey, we zoomed pass huge mansions and bungalows...I bet rich business man had made themselves some getaway villas or to welcome some important officials to their home...Comparing to SG, it was like buying a house in CBD and to top of it all, it was facing the Bay of Bengal...very nice indeed...As soon as we alighted at the basement of the apartment, we were escorted up the stairs to their havens...The marble staircase tells it all that this belongs to posh people...
On the fourth floor, I think, we were greeted with 7 pairs of Shannon and a few more pairs of Bridget's... The hallway was simple and along the right side of the wall, two framed hanyu pinyins tells who are the owners of the humble house in Besant Nagar...
When I first stepped into the main hall, it was twice the size of hall cum dining area...it was an executive flat like...Equipped with cable tv and a perfect theather set, the hall was more than home...It was simple with one coffee table and two-rotan short seats and also a loft couple bed cum sofa for watching movies in the hall...so romantic...Nope, I haven't finished yet...
Looking out on their balcony, we could see the humongous playground and a park, perfect for strolling and jogging. The best of all, we could see the shorelines of Bay of Bengal...it was perfect house...I was awed and didn't mind at all if the company can give us such place...
While Shannon and partner busily cooking our dinner, we managed to see what channels they have and I admit it, they have more than ours do...It was truly unbelievable for me because of the 89 days we stayed here, we had our first Laksa cooked with love....it was marvellous and I coudn't simply asked for more...it was nothing compared to the local mee rebus...I yearned for my mom's cooking right now...
For dessert, we have some short cakes and hot coffee, a great complement to the cold weather...As we ate, we watched AeonFlux. I couldn't understand one bit but who cares, I couldn't stop thinking that I was finally to get a taste of good life here....
After bid goodbye and thanks to Bridget, Shannon escorted us down and instructed the driver to drive us home...I couldn't hide my expression...Sitting beside the driver, Mr Velu, I felt like a King for a moment...
He showed us a few luxurious mansions owned by Chettiars and ministers. Very eye opening indeed. Despite the flood, the mansion stood out against the living area of T.Nagar...Weaving in and out of Besant Nagar, I got to know that Mr Velu has been working for Bridget and Shannon for almost two years...Experienced with foreigners and delegates from all over the world, Mr Velu spoke English quite fluently...
As we turned in Thomas 2nd Street, I wished we were a little farther because it ended just too soon...After bid him good bye, we brought ourselves with our prized item and a big, big smile...
Life in Chennai is still a mystery to me...
