Happy New Year!!
So what was I doing on New Year? Well, I didn't actually scream on top of my lungs demanding to go back to SG or even scream Happy New Year. Neither to do I declare anything stupid like I love Chennai....but I actually had bought myself a Levi's 518 jeans and a cap....lolx...
I bought them way back in 2005 actually.....so while waiting for the clock to strike 12 here (Chennai time) we spent our New Year cooped up at home....Yes! Literally cooped up at home and stacking whatever morsels of food, biscuits, vodkas and whatever nots on the coffee table, and watching VH1 Big '05....
Erm, I wasn't too sure what Aaron, Yh and Jimmy were trying to do but I think they tried to create pub ambience in the living room while I was taking pictures of my newly bought jeans and other stuffs that I had bought....Then, we saw some of the fireworks on the balcony and decided to sit down and watch until one of the four of us suggested the roof for better viewing...Saiful was already engrossed and played again the Star Wars and we left him just there...
We practically scrambled to the roof top to capture some fireworks and it was astonishing...from our roof, we could see the fireworks shot up from everywhere....almost the whole Chennai sky was coloured by fireworks of different colours....
Then we climbed even higher to catch the whole view and there, I couldn't believe my eyes.....Fireworks of bright crimson orange exploded with a shower of minute stars. Showers of bright orange rained down like confetti thrown by God himself....
Then those few which were near to us, left a loud bang after it exploded into a myriad of colours. We were actually quite stunned as we have never even experienced this any inch closer. It was equally comparable to National Day...I was speechless and marvelled by the fireworks...
The view from where we were from could stretch as far as 25 km away....At so many locations, you could see the fireworks bloomed beautifully decorating the dark skies...
Lasting for about 30 minutes, the fireworks was indeed a spectacle to behold. Finally, we decided to turn in because we were invitied to Shannon's place for Nasi Lemak...
The very next day, we were set to go to Shannon's place for lunch...Being a super nice couple, they send their driver Velu to fetch us. How nice can these Singaporean be. While I was on my way, I still haven't decided my resolution yet. I don't know what I wanted. Then again, I don't know if I could keep up with my resolution even if I make one.
Upon arriving at their haven, Shannon and Bridget was there welcoming us. This time we got to see the sea view at day time. It was indeed a gorgeous view. With a large balcony overlooking the ocean, the house could have never been better. But the thing is that, they wanted to shift house soon. Moved on, we were also greeted by the array of dishes cooked by Shannon and Bridget...it was typical Nasi Lemak with slight touches of modernisation...It was pretty good lunch we had. We also watched Equilibrium as we enjoyed the sumptious lunch....
After that, the couple suggested for coffee and we agreed to Mocha. It was one of the hippiest places where teenagers and tourist alike wind down at the turkish themed cafe. The building itself were painted with high contrast of magenta and turqoise blue. With a bunch of bamboo trees grown out of nowhere at the left and with a lotus pond in the centre, the cafe itself was refurbished perfectly from a dilapidated house...
I had some ice cream cake known as Vertigo as it was at least 5 inch tall with its content of alternating layers of chocolate cake and cream. It was laced with some chocolate syrup and chocolate milk I think... and also cookie crumble which is not that great as the cake...We also had some fries and sheesha....lolx...I didn't smoke that and never wanted to...Only Aaron, Jimmy and Yh had a fair share of sheesha....
After relaxing a bit at the place, we decided to stroll around the neighbourhood...there was actually a newly opened Levi's Signature store...We decided to go in and take a look but most o fit was still in boxes...I assumed that it was not officially open yet....there were pretty cheap and stylish but none caught my eyes...After everyone satisfied with their window shopping we strolled towards Movenpick where Velu was waiting for us...
Shannon decided to visit Marina Beach but Velu claimed that the beach was crowded and it was indeed double crowded. Before that we went to Parry's to look for firework shops but we doubt it was even open.
So yeap, we went to Marina. The world's second longest beach. It was really great to stand on the second longest beach with Bay of Bengal just stretched out towards the horizon...we could not see the horizon because the sun had set already. After that, Shannon brought us to St. Thome Church where it claimed that one of the 12 apostles, rest in peace there. It was pretty cool to see the relics and old stone carvings in the museum...
After admiring the church. we decided to go to The Park hotel for dinner. Let me tell you this. The Park was a very high-class hotel, in fact, it was a four-star hotel I think and our dinner was at 601 restuarant. A very classy restaurant. Having a close contact with the inside people, Shannon have gotten us a private dining area with a wall of wine bottles. It was indeed a very private. I never had anything like this before and the feeling was a little bit exhilarating with a touch of a class. Even the caucasian diners were wondering why we got there in the first place. Lolx...
We had some thai fried rice, seafood platter and chicken platter which was a very delicious indeed and quite norm to the locals. We also had thai kway teow-like noodles....Oh, I almost forgot about the pizza....wow! I couldn't thank them enough man...I practically didn't even come out a cent for this...(Feeling a little guilty... :p) but we treat them at mocha...hahhahaa...
After washed down everything with a cup of coffee, we took a ride back home on their Ford Endeavour
It was a perfect evening of the first day of a new year....
Thanks to Shannon and Bridget....
