I cannot forget my life in Chennai...
It was real. I had to put up with so much inconveniences and improvising with so many things.I was equally grateful to have four friends helping me out to adjust the adverse conditions that I had to live for the rest of the three months.
I was totally independent. I had to wash my own laundry, cook my own dinner(Actually, cooking was done by Jimmy :p), helping out with the groceries and shop :).
Although I had to live with some setbacks like, I couldn't be there to celebrate my Hari Raya. It was the very first time that I didn't celebrate with my family, but I still do enjoy it.
I remember that I felt sick on Friday. My temperature was up to 39.8 degrees...I didn't tell my family that I was sick because it was Hari Raya...Just don't want to spoil their mood...
It was a real eye opening experience and to witness the living standards there. It was totally contrasting with the rich and the poor. Right beside our apartment at the back alley, it was lined with dried palm leaves houses. It was amazing that they could survive in such conditions.
With torrential rain and perpetual flooding in that area, they could still live it. I was so amazed. We weren't allowed to give them any money for our own safety reasons. Luckily, we won't need to face them everyday.
We enjoyed ourselves tremendously and even more fulfilling with our friend Shannon and wifey Bridget. They were the ones who had shown us the lives we should have while in India.
We shopped at trendiest Fashion Folks to the only mall we know as the Spencer's Plaza...there is no affiliation to Marks and Spencer or whatsoever..I just love to shop but just didn't bring enough money to last me for the three months...
My local colleagues were so intrigued and seemed that they were wowed that I came from Singapore...They thought that I was a local Indian too like them when I said that I'm a Singaporean...We never had any language or cultural barrier because they are modern Indian or so to speak...
My immediate supervisor, Mr Ajay and his team mates like Mr Venkad, like to joke around with us. But when it comes to work, Mr Ajay really show what is work. I was so lucky I didn't have to do any tedious programmatic codes or doing some maintaining of web sites...
I just love my job...doing research...hahahhaha...yeah, I was in charge of doing some research and proof of concepts which is doing a demo of something...We were actually involve in a live project so we indirectly contributing to the projects itself...
Of course, I had my own problems down there...like, I had to put up with taxi drivers which demand an extras or those who purposely driving round and round to arrive at our destination...they could actually charged us another Rs20 more... I know it was not even a $1 but still they should be honest when they are doing a job...
Celebrations like Hari Raya was nothing there...I never see any families going around their neighbourhood visiting relatives friends or families...it is just another day...For New Year, we sat at the roof top and see fire works exlpoding from every corner of the vicinity...
It was just great and if only I had a video cam with me, we could record the whole scene of it...The rooftop is so ideal because you could see millions of stars on it, perfect for a candle light dinner...
The NYP girls came much later...
They came one week before we left and we had to shift place to a much bigger apartment...I really missed Quanta Zen because of its comfort...it is much cozier than the dusty Quanta Maniam...we even had to mopped and clean the place to make our 1 week stay even better...
The thing is that with the girls, we showed to them what we had been doing for past three months down there...before they came, Aaron even put up a survival kit for them...how thoughtful of him...Mind you, even toilet paper is expensive...
There were even sparks flying around and opposites attract, at least for two of them...hahahaha...Even though they sort of trying to "match-make" me with Yana...I can't misbehave...
I had to be a good host to these girls and show to them what they can do to make their stay comfortable...
On the first day, they were already treated to a sumptious dinner at Italian restaurant Bella Ciao while we launched our fireworks to mark the end of Chennai stay and the beginning of the girls stay.hahaha...so apt...We were never treated to such things during our first few days and I still remember we were only given cup noodles to fill our empty stomachs...
For that 1 week, like I said, sparks were already flying around and it doesn't even a last a minute to break the ice....so we were kind of fast...lolx...
We sort of like neighbours and like inviting each other for dinner at our apartments like that...hahahah...it was so fun like having some idiot like us stranded in Chennai...
We tremendously enjoyed each other's company till that very Saturday 22nd of January...
Obviously, time was too short for us...and even more shorter for the two love birds...Kind of heartbreaking to leave the girls alone without us gentlemen...We were worried as would the girls be able to survive like us....and it seems that they did even better than expected...hahahaha
When we arrived at the Singapore Changi Airport, it couldn't even be more than a satisfying relief...my family said that I have shrunken and turning a little bit skinny but I just said that I could gain back faster than ever...
It was such a relief to be back in Singapore...sometimes, things shouldn't be taken for granted...
Haiz...the rest was just an history...
A tribute to my life in Chennai...
Oh yah! Here is my pic with my mum....Happy Mother's Day mommy! This was actually taken before I departed to Chennai...
