I would like to give my two-cents worth about the Ministry of Home Affairs....
The very recent incident did not help the biggest blunder that had happened not very long ago. The officers definitely need to buck up, be vigilant and exercise high discipline in every aspect of the work.
I do agree the monotonous day-to-day routine which seemed to be an unchanged hundred-year-old ritual should not be an excuse. Complacency has set upon us and the severe consequences can tarnish every single merit that we have achieved so far.
What's the point having the state-of-the-art machines and having a fool-proof procedures that our officers did not exercise due diligence. The top management have given the slack so to give the flexibility to our officers. Now, they are threaten with retrenchment by our minister and hence more audits will be conducted to achieve zero-tolerance report. This means we can longer be complacent, lazy and simply skirking our responsibility. Otherwise, it will cost us the job, morale and dignity.
Thousands of government officers under the Home Affairs umbrella have done exceptionally good job. Many have been conferred prestigious accolades for the services that they have rendered. However, there is a still minority, those who deluded themselves with unnecessary actions that brought predicament to the entire organisation. The very action of this impundent minority has caused a greater ripple that might compromise the standards that other countries have set on us.
This high class organisation has been ridiculed with security lapses and whatnots. I suggest to those who think they are not up to the standards to resign immediately. They undermine the progress and have brought nothing but make a fool out of everything. Me, too, have no tolerance for such officers.
Even though I'm serving national service with the Singapore Police Force, I strongly believed that every individual, to the very last man of the organisation, have to exercise highest discipline and avoid such blunders.
Each one of us in the organisation wants good out of our organisation. We have enjoyed the benefits such as bonuses, grants and other lucrative benefits. In such situation, do you think the ministry would release such benefits again? I doubt so. It also means injustice to officers who have worked very hard to make sure that, the work done are in accordance to the prescribed practice.
I'm quite disappointed but there is still a lot of room for improvement. So, buck up guys or they will you the boot.
