So okay, yet another Malay won the Singapore Idol. The first season won by Taufik, second season won by Hady and now we have a new Malay dude, Sezairi.
There's nothing against Sezairi just because he is a Malay or the fact that he is a gentlemen. Initially, I thought he should have get rid of those glasses or choose glasses that portrayed him like a star. Although he can sing, he should also look like one.
I cannot agree more when Ken prefers Tabby to be in the final 2. She could definitely sing better and would add another interesting history as female Idol.
I didn't really religiously watch SI week after week unlike my mother. I was rooting for Sylvia not because of her vocal chords, but her personality and her charisma that can be commercialize and bring fortune to the local music industry.
No, I didn't deny the musician's lack of personality or charm. He just looked like the boy-next-door or the occassional gig performer at the esplanade. Like Dick said, local music talents should be push to the front line and be exposed as much as possible despite the small market size.
When they have solid ground here, expand regionally and grab that slice to propel forward. For example,
the power house Charice who happens to be a Fillipina. No doubt her voice seranade the entire Singapore Indoor Stadium and has even duet with A-list Singers like Andrea Bocelli, Celine Dion, etc. An Asian that achieved so much should be made an example.
If Singaporeans started to think that these is another Suria's Anugerah or Channel's U Project Superstar, nope. This is Singapore Idol where the best competes and no matter what the result is, the Singapore label could be placed at a better place like the Phillipines who lucky to have Charice. Regardless of race, we should rally around the contestant who we want to see them carrying the burden of representing Singapore in the music industry.
Think broad. Think far.
So, I hope in the next season, such sentiments should be buried with this vision. :)
